Of quilting and protesting

First things first, look what was going on in the nanann household yesterday:

Sashings getting added!

I am proud to announce that the top is altogether now except for the borders, and I went to a local quilt shop this morning and picked out the border fabrics so those should be going on soon!  Yay!

(And my gosh, how do I get any sewing done with that mess on my desk!?!?)

As for other weekend activities, we ate out for lunch Saturday and decided to go do something different – so we went and checked out the Capital with the girls on a whim.  (We have of course been, but they haven’t.)

Aww, look at my husband and girls…including Ariel…

We walked around, checked out the empty Senate and watched the House of Reps get to work (on a Saturday!) and then went out front to check out the cannons, etc.

all the kids playing

Their favorite part, until they found the water fountain, were the road barricades.  There was hugging and running around and just general joy.

They loved the road barricades

Really, there is joy in that picture above!

BUT, we were soon swarmed by a Legalize Pot demonstration that marched in from the street and took over the steps, set up speakers and had speeches!  SO odd to find yourself watching a protest when you least expect it!

Good civic lesson for the girls I suppose, although they were much more interested in playing with the water fountain.  We enjoyed the people-watching part of it ourselves.  And I saw at least 1 term for marijuana that I had never heard on a couple signs.

Hope your weekend was equally interesting!
